How to drive a ball straight is a frequent question of golfers.
One of the requirements about how to drive a ball straight is to keep a steady head position throughout your golf swing or, at least through impact.
Recently a student asked me what he could do to keep his head steady during his swing.
I noticed that he was moving his head considerably during his golf swing.
My golf swing tip to him was that he should maintain eye contact with his ball from the beginning of his swing through impact. I informed him that anytime he lost eye contact with his ball prior to impact his head was moving too much to hit a solid golf shot.
The results were instantaneous. When he forced himself to maintain eye contact with his ball his head barely moved at all.
As a consequence he began hitting solid golf shots.
I read an article recently about Hale Irwin winning the 1974 U.S. Open at Winged Foot. He stated he faced a 2 iron shot to the green on the final hole.
He stated that his swing thought was to take the club back very slowly and maintain eye contact with the ball through impact. He then stated:
“The shot came off perfectly, and I went on to win my first open.”
You too can improve your golf game by maintaining eye contact with your ball throughimpact just as Hale Irwin did to win his first U.S. Open.
However, there is much more to hitting a golf ball straight than keeping a steady head through impact.
One of the best ways to hit straight golf shots is to lock-in a straight ball flight alignment by using one of the Locked-In Golf™ Techniques, assume a comfortable stance and posture to your ball, center the sweet spot of your clubface as near as possible to the back of your ball and align your shoulders parallel with your target (directional) line.
Then if you maintain eye contact with your ball through impact and execute a simple golf swing, you will produce straight golf shots. However, unless you keep a steady head in such instance the odds are you will mishit your golf shot.
Follow these instructions and you will find the answer to how to drive a ball straight.
