One of the best golf swing tips is to understand that a strong grip means nothing more than a hooded club face.
In terms of golf swing tips, what does astrong golf grip accomplish in relationship to the alignment of the club face?
A strong golf grip, whether you can see three knuckles or four knuckles on your left hand from your line of vision, does no more than to create a hooded (closed) club face in terms of club face alignment, whether you are trying to hook your golf shot or attempt to drive a golf ball straight.
You can validate this anatomical phenomenon by gripping your club with a strong grip and then relaxing your hands without un-gripping your club. You will observe a hooded (closed) club face.
So why not just hood your club face prior to gripping your club and then grip your club with a neutral grip?
Quite frankly, it is a much easier procedure.
In addition, you spare yourself the anxiety and frustration of trying to align your knuckles so that you can see at least three or more on your left hand from your line of vision at the completion of your grip.
Some golf swing instructions suggest a stronger grip will cure a slice.
As to those who believe their slice is cured as a result of assuming a stronger grip, they should know the stronger grip, alone, does not cure a slice.
What cures a slice when using a stronger grip is that the golfer subconsciously swings the club along the angle of the closed club face during the takeaway which, in turn, causes the club face to rotate to a closed alignment and the club face to rotate to an in-to-out path across their body/shoulder line to create a draw or hook ball flight alignment at the completion of the back swing.
From this position, the downswing should deliver a closed club face to the ball on an in-to-out swing path of the club face to produce a draw or hook instead of a slice. Even if it cures a slice, it merely swaps one problem for another; a draw or hook instead of a slice.
Had the same golfer swung the club face along his or her body/shoulder line during the back swing rather than to the outside of the body/shoulder line, the downswing would have delivered a different club face alignment and, also, a different swing path to the ball, to produce a different ball flight.
It is swinging the club face to the outside of the body/shoulder line during the back swing that cures the slice rather than a stronger grip on the club —- in those cases in which a slice is cured with a stronger grip.
The trouble of trying to cure a slice by swinging the club face to the outside of the body/shoulder line during the back swing is the club face may be swung too much to the “outside.” As a result, the alignment and path of the club face may rotate too much and produce a push or push-slice golf shot. You merely swap one errant golf shot for another in doing so.
The only assured way of curing a slice and producing straight golf shots in line with the target is to use one of the Locked-In Golf™ techniques to lock-in a square alignment and an online swing path of the club face at the completion of the setup proceedings.
Then the downswing will deliver a square club face to the ball on a path that matches the body/shoulder line to produce a straight ball flight.
