One of the most significant golf swing tips is to understand the function of hip rotation during the golf swing.
Another most important golf swing tip is to appreciate the function of the wrist hinge during a simple golf swing.
When I think of the respective function of each I analogize it to the action of electrical current.
In studying electronics while in the military many years ago we were taught the difference between direct and alternating (AC) current.
So, in terms of golf swing instructions I sometime use the electrical current analogy to describe the distinction between the rotation of the hips and the hinging and unhinging of the wrists when executing a golf swing.
I frequently refer to the analogy whether the objective is to shape the golf shot in some way or hit the golf ball straight to the target.
I view hip rotation more akin to the action of direct current, especially as the hips rotate counterclockwise during the down swing.
It’s like a fullback running straight ahead in a football game just as the hips rotate in one fluid motion during the downswing.
On the other hand, I view the wrists hinging and unhinging during the golf swing in the same manner as alternating current.
There simply is the matter of the wrists hinging during the back swing and not unhinging during the downswing until through the impact zone, somewhat in the manner of AC current alternating back and forth instead of in one fluid motion.
Neither functions in a vacuum. Therefore, the best golf technique is to synchronize the combination of both to maximize the longest golf shots.
Whether more distance is derived from one versus the other may be debatable.
Some golfers use more hip rotation (in combination with shoulder turn) than wrist action. Others rely more on wrist action than hip rotation.
Although I believe more club head speed is produced by hip rotation than wrist action, the best golf swing tips is to use both to the maximum if you wish to improve your golf game.
